Stage6 was always going to be on the same shaky legal ground as Youtube, Divx, the owners of Stage6, really have brought shame on themselves by giving their users only 3 days notice that the site will be closing and any media they uploaded will be gone forever.
Given that the court ruling which has led to this decision took place 3 weeks ago it’s not like Divx haven’t had time to prepare their users. On the Stage6 blog, they say that Divx have been looking at closing the service or selling it for over 6 months now, so the contingency plans should have been well in place.
If I were a Divx business partner, I’d wonder what else they’d be willing to cut off with only 3 days notice.
